Awkward Moments Made Better by Pizza

Whether it’s the time you tripped up the stairs at graduation or the time you drooled on a stranger sitting next to you on a long flight home, awkward moments are everywhere– and the holidays especially are full of them. Luckily, pizza solves everything. Tori Oman writes about some of her awkward moments, and we paired them with the Pizza Hut pizza that should make everything better. Like fine wine and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, and cookies and milk, pizza pairs well no matter how uncomfortable the situation.

One time I got set up on a blind date that only lasted an hour and a half and I was home before the sun went down. The good news? That hour and a half was spent eating pizza. The bad news? I thought a second date was a good idea and ended up on a Santa Claus Pub Crawl with him. Yes he wore a Santa Suit.

Pizza pairing: Old Fashioned Meatbrawl. Classic marinara sauce, classic meatballs, fresh red onions and diced Roma tomatoes—flavored up with our Hut Favorite on the crust edge. Pairs well with candy canes, probably.

I used to live in Chicago. If you didn’t know, it’s cold there. Like numbingly, miserably, polar vortex-y cold. Good thing I had a pizza place a block from my apartment. That delivered.

Pizza pairing: 7-Alarm Fire. Premium crushed tomato sauce, pepperoni, sliced jalapeno peppers, Peruvian cherry peppers, sliced banana peppers, and fresh green bell peppers—flavored up with fiery red pepper on the crust edge. Brings the heat…because it’s cold out.

Now I live in Dallas. If you didn’t know, it’s hot here. Like scorching-ly, sweat inducing, anything BUT polar vortex-y hot here. Good thing I have a pizza place a block from my apartment. That delivers.

Pizza pairing: Skinny Luau. Premium crushed tomato sauce, topped with grilled chicken, slow-roasted ham, fresh green bell peppers, and sweet pineapple. It’s beach season!!

Once I was on a softball team called The Bandits. We had sweet matching t-shirts, played three seasons together, and won two games. Yes, two games in three seasons. But that didn’t stop us from celebrating every hard earned loss with some post-game pizza.

Pizza pairing: Giddy-up BBQ Chicken. Barbecue sauce, grilled chicken, hardwood smoked bacon and fresh red onions—flavored up with toasted cheddar on the crust edge and a barbecue sauce drizzle. Because nothing pairs better than defeat and bacon.

In college, I tried to make chicken Parmesan for my boyfriend. It didn’t work. But my phone did. So I ordered pizza.

Pizza pairing: Cock-a-doodle Bacon. Creamy garlic Parmesan sauce, grilled chicken, hardwood smoked bacon, and diced Roma tomatoes—flavored up with toasted Parmesan on the crust edge. Chicken parm fail? Chicken pizza win.

Remember in my other post I talked about my high school recycling club with my pal Chris? I said it was just the two of us, but that was sort of a lie. One time we provided free pizza at one of our meetings. And like, 6 people came.

Pizza pairing: Garden Party. Premium crushed tomato sauce, fresh green peppers, fresh red onions, fresh mushrooms, diced Roma tomatoes and fresh spinach—flavored up with our Hut Favorite on the crust edge and a balsamic sauce drizzle. Green veggies for the green team.

For a year, post-college, I had the silly idea to roommate with a couple of messy dudes and some dogs. Turns out it actually wasn’t that silly because dudes (and dogs) find it completely acceptable to eat pizza for dinner. And lunch. And breakfast. Multiple days a week.

Pizza pairing: Meat Lovers®. Classic marinara sauce, pepperoni, Italian sausage, slow-roasted ham, hardwood smoked bacon, seasoned pork and beef. Meat for days.

I spill food (pizza included) on myself frequently, so I wear a lot of scarves (they’re more acceptable than adult bibs). Apparently I’m inspirational because #DIDYOUKNOW pizza scarves are now a thing?!??!?!?!

Pizza pairing: Cherry Pepper Bombshell. Premium crushed tomato sauce, premium salami, Peruvian cherry peppers and fresh spinach—flavored up with toasted Asiago on the crust edge and balsamic sauce drizzle. Cherry peppers are fancy and so is your scarf; eat like the sophisticated adult you are.

It could have been dorky that I was the kid with my nose in a book for many of my adolescent years. BUT IT WASN’T. BECAUSE BOOK IT! AND FREE PERSONAL PAN PIZZAS. #truth

Pizza pairing: Ultimate cheese lovers. Creamy garlic Parmesan sauce topped with 50% more cheese than our standard recipes. Because nothing pairs better than cheese.

My college roommate hated mushrooms. I love mushrooms. This could have been the beginning of a great divide in a small garden level apartment located in the Chicago Lake view neighborhood in 2007. But it wasn’t. Because there are half and half pizzas. PHEW.

Pizza pairing: Supreme. Classic marinara sauce, pepperoni, seasoned pork, beef, fresh mushrooms, and red onions. Obviously, mushrooms only on one half.
