At Pizza Hut, part of living Life Unboxed means giving back to the communities we serve. In 2016, Pizza Hut launched The Literacy Project with the goal of unlocking potential through literacy and reading for 100,000,000 people over 10 years. Pizza Hut has partnered with First Book, a nonprofit social enterprise organization representing the largest network of educators serving kids in need, to implement a year-round fundraising effort. The fundraising and awareness campaign is designed to enable access to reading, empower teachers with greater resources and inspire a lifelong love of reading, helping those who need it most reach their full potential. Additionally, Pizza Hut’s longstanding Book It Program continues to encourage 14 million students in more than 35,000 elementary schools in the US each year to reach a reading goal set by their teachers. Pizza Hut has also supported hunger-relief efforts in the past by partnering with the World Food Programme to raise more than $20 million over 9 years, providing more than 80 million meals to children in need; and also regularly donating food that would have been thrown away to organizations in need through our long-standing Harvest Program.
