Dallas Summer Reading Club

Q: What brings a live band, zoo animals, local sport’s mascots and Pizza Hut to the Dallas Public Library on a Tuesday morning?

A: The kickoff of Mayor Mike Rawling’s 43rd annual Summer Reading Club of course! And this year the club has a very special sponsor- Pizza Hut’s BOOK IT! Program!

The Pizza Hut BOOK IT! crew is thrilled to be the presenting sponsor of the 2016 Mayor’s Summer Reading Club. BOOK IT! enjoys the distinction of being the America’s longest and largest corporate sponsored reading program. So, an initiative that aims to encourage kids to beat the summer lull and keep their academic skills sharp over the break through reading, is right up their alley.

Sign-ups for the eight week long Mayor’s Summer Reading Club began May 17th and are open to children and adults of all ages who are interested in keeping up with their daily reading over the summer! Oh, did we mention there are prizes? There are! Young club members can earn weekly incentive prizes. We are talking awesome things like books, zoo tickets and of course, PIZZA. (#willreadforpizza).

And while prizes are great, the real motivation behind the Mayor’s club is to keep kids learning during their summer breaks. Regular reading over the summer provides an assist to a young person’s brain power because it helps avoid summer learning loss, inspires curiosity and helps establish a foundation for them to become lifelong readers and learners.
